6th grade
2nd Period: Pottery (4-12th grade)

We will be handling clay, learning different techniques to mold and shape it, types of tools and how to use and care for them, and learn how our projects get fired in a kiln. Clay projects will be taken by the teacher to get fired and brought back to class for painting. Students should bring a smock or old shirt to wear that can get messy.
3rd Period: Cooking & Food Prep Fun (4-6th grade)

We will learn to prepare food for snacks &/or simple meals as well as some cooking tips along the way. Class may include using real knives, hot griddle, baking, mixing, measuring, and maybe a little fun too!
Parents should feel comfortable with their child using a real knife and hands on cooking with hot pans.
3rd Period: Name that Note!: Part II (3-6th grade)

This is a fun class about learning to read piano notes. Each lesson will begin with a musical notes game or a fun worksheet. The second half of the class time will be a time for the students to practice on the individual keyboards.
3rd Period: Sewing Basics Part II (6-12th grade)

This class will aim to teach students the basics of both hand and machine sewing. We will do this through at least three fun projects that the student will be able to use long after class has ended. The class fee will cover the cost of a basic sewing kit that will be the student's to keep at the conclusion of the class, as well as the supplies for the first project.
**Students will need to purchase fabrics for two projects. >> Fabric must be woven (not stretchy).
Apron: 4 yards fabric thread
Pillow Quilt:
- 2 1/2 yards each of TWO fabrics -OR- 5 yards of ONE fabric
- 1 twin size fleece blanket (must have measurements at least 66"x90")
- 1 embroidery floss
3rd Period: Study through Asia! (4-6th grade)

We would be going through the different countries of Asia, learning briefly about their histories and cultures, while also having fun! We would be using the Asia study unit from Gather Round Homeschool. I think it would be a super fun opportunity to explore another country.
4th Period: Chemical Reactions (6-9th grade)

Students will discuss and observe the chemical reactions through different science experiments.
4th Period: Chess: Tournament Play (4-12th grade)

For the students who already know the basics, we will get into more strategy that includes tactics, endgame principles, patterns and traps. Students will also play against each other in tournaments throughout the semester.
4th Period: Drama Club: Performance Part II (6-12th grade)

Co-teacher: Jackie Westerfeld
This class will consist of learning theater and performance skills, building confidence, acting, improv, nonverbal communication, team building, and so much more. We'll also work on rehearsal and performance of a 45-60 minute play at the end of spring term. The play may be a musical, but musical ability/solo singing is NOT required to be cast in a role.
Students need to be able to read and memorize lines. Additionally, students must come prepared to participate in class activities.
