For the students who already know the basics, we will get into more strategy that includes tactics, endgame principles, patterns and traps. Students will also play against each other in tournaments throughout the semester.
1st Period: Travel through the Parables (4-6th grade)

Parables were a central part of Jesus' life and teaching ministry. He loved telling stories! Just imagine what it was like to be in the crowd, listening as his feet. Why did Jesus teach in parables? Why are they confusing sometimes? Are parables important today? I can't wait to explore these and more questions in creative ways as we dive into the parables of Jesus together, learning how to apply them to our lives. Get ready to be challenged and inspired! Lessons will include:

1st Period: U.S. Trivia & Games (4-7th grade)

We will memorize US states and state capitals, the 4 main oceans and if time permits the order of the US presidents. We will do this through games and trivia.
2nd Period: American History Part II (3rd-6th grade)

Interesting facts about American History will be covered as the presidents are introduced. In the fall the first ten presidents were studied. The spring semester will start with James Polk and end with James Garfield. Each lesson begins with an overview of the president and what was happening in America during his term in office. The class time will conclude with an activity that correlates to the study of the day.
This class will cover new material not previously discussed in the other American History classes.
2nd Period: ASL (4-12th grade)

Students that have taken the class are welcome to take it again. There will be new information as well as review and games to play. New students are welcome also.
Students will not need to bring any supplies. We will be learning how to have conversations in American Sign Language.
2nd Period: Dinosaurs & Fossils (4th-6th grade)

I will be using Campfire curriculum to teach this class. It's written in living book format and is an all encompassing curriculum. It has science, ELA, history and a little bit of math throughout the study of dinosaurs!
2nd Period: Pottery (4-12th grade)

We will be handling clay, learning different techniques to mold and shape it, types of tools and how to use and care for them, and learn how our projects get fired in a kiln. Clay projects will be taken by the teacher to get fired and brought back to class for painting. Students should bring a smock or old shirt to wear that can get messy.
3rd Period: Cooking & Food Prep Fun (4-6th grade)

We will learn to prepare food for snacks &/or simple meals as well as some cooking tips along the way. Class may include using real knives, hot griddle, baking, mixing, measuring, and maybe a little fun too!
Parents should feel comfortable with their child using a real knife and hands on cooking with hot pans.
